Tips To Keep Your Cool This Summer

Staying safe during a heatwave is crucial as extreme heat can pose serious health risks.

Here are some to help you stay safe:

A. Stay Hydrated:

1. Aim to drink plenty of water…at least 8-10 glasses of water a day…
even if you don’t feel thirsty.
2. Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine, as they can dehydrate you.
3. Consider drinks with electrolytes if you’re sweating a lot.
4. Stay Indoors and spend as much time as possible in air-conditioned buildings.
5. If you don’t have air conditioning, use fans to circulate air.
3. Take cool showers or baths to lower your body temperature.
4. Choose to wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
5. Limit physical activity, especially during the hottest parts of the day…
typically…between 10 AM to 4 PM.

B. Protect Yourself:

1. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
2. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.

2. Use appliances wisely…and, if possible, avoid using ovens or stoves that can heat up your home.
3. Create a cool room by designating a room in your home to keep as cool as possible.

E. Stay Informed & Aware:

1. Weather updates can help you keep an eye on weather forecasts and heat advisories.
2. Utilize your community resources & know the locations of cooling centers in your area.
3. Keep pets & animals indoors and ensure they have plenty of water and are kept in cool areas.
4. Avoid hot pavement and walk pets during cooler parts of the day to avoid burning their paws.
