Morgan Wallen has been forced to cancel six weeks of upcoming tour dates and festival appearances, as well as his ACM Awards performance, after being placed on a strict six-week vocal rest. Wallen revealed on Tuesday he had re-injured his voice; he had already canceled several shows after losing his voice before a performance at Vaught Hemingway Stadium at the University of Mississippi on April 23, but returned to performing last week in Florida following an initial 10-day vocal rest.

Wallen posted a video message on Instagram alerting fans of the unfortunate news: “They told me I re-injured my vocal cords and that I have vocal fold trauma. Their advice is that I go on vocal rest for six weeks, so that’s what I’m going to do. They told me that if I do this the right way that I’ll get back to 100%. They also said if I don’t listen and keep singing, that I’ll permanently damage my voice. So, for the longevity of my career, this is just the choice I had to make.” Wallen told his fans: “I hate it, but I love you guys and I appreciate all the support that you always give me and I’ll see you soon and I’ll be back better than ever. God bless you.”

Wallen’s six-week stretch of vocal rest would run until June 20, meaning he would miss shows in Hershey, PA; East Rutherford, NJ; Austin, TX; Houston; Atlanta; Panama City, FL; Myrtle Beach, SC; Virginia Beach, VA; Pittsburgh, PA; Philadelphia. An announcement from Wallen’s publicist said that new tour dates will be announced “imminently,” at which point anyone holding tickets will have a 30-day refund window, open at point of purchase, if they can’t or do not want to attend the rescheduled show. The statement said that Wallen is working to reschedule any missed festival appearances to 2024. The singer will also miss his appearance at the Academy Country Music Awards on Thursday.
